The iXon Ultra Blue EMCCD significantly boosts Blue/UV response while offering single photon sensitivity, high-speed and deep vacuum cooling for darkcurrent minimization. Drawing upon decades of market leadership in ultra-sensitive EMCCD technology, the new Andor iXon Ultra Blue camera offers a significant enhancement in QE response across the blue and near-UV range, 200nm – 450nm, ideal for cutting edge applications such as ion trap quantum computing research and semiconductor metrology.

iXon Ultra Blue 888 model features a 1018 x 1018, 13 µm pixel, back-illuminated EMCCD sensor format. Modes for overclocking of the pixel readout rate are readily available for accelerated frame rates. Additionally, Andor’s ‘Crop Mode’ can be employed to further boost frame rates from a user defined sub-region, for example pushing the iXon Ultra Blue 888 model to 251 fps from a 256 x 256 region of interest.

The camera also benefits from market-leading iXon Ultra cooling down to -95°C, ensuring minimization of darkcurrent contribution and permitting usage for long exposure conditions. Furthermore, thermal and clock induced charge events have been minimized for enhanced discrimination of single photons events in quantum entanglement experiments. Minimal data transfer latency can be accessed via an additional Camera Link Output port, facilitating direct access to data for ‘on the fly’ processing and fast feedback loops. iXon Ultra Blue also offers 2-in-1 Flexibility; EMCCD-mode for single photon sensitivity at speed and CCD-mode for long exposure capture of weak signal.

The iXon Ultra platform comes loaded with smart camera features: Count Convert allows data to be presented in electrons or incident photons; OptAcquire presents a series of one-click preset application-optimized configurations; FPGA timestamp hardware-generates a timestamp with10ns accuracy.

Crucially, the iXon brand carries an outstanding reputation within the industry for quality and reliability, brandishing an unparalleled track record of minimal field failures.

Blue/UV-optimised QE - Ideal for low light emitters of blue/UV photons, such as Ytterbium ion emission (370nm)

Single Photon Sensitive - Image extremely weak signal, including individual trapped ions.

UV/Blue optimized windows (optional) - super-high transmission in this range. If only ever for use in the UV/Blue region, consider these window options during the ordering process.

1 Megapixel - Larger field of view and higher resolution EMCCD

Overclocked readout speeds - Follow dynamic changing processes.

Crop Mode - Continuous imaging with fastest possible frame rate from centrally positioned ROIs. Highly enabling for quantum imaging and much more (e.g. 251 fps with 256 x 256 ROI).

Minimal Data Latency - Camera Link output port to facilitate direct access to data for ‘on the fly’ processing and fast feedback loops.

TE cooling to -95°C - Elimination of dark current detection limit.

Minimized spurious noise - Minimal thermal and clock induced charge events for discrimination of single photons.

‘2-in-1’ Flexibility - EMCCD mode for ultra-sensitivity at speed, CCD mode for longer exposures.

RealGain™ - Absolute EMCCD gain selectable directly from a linear and quantitative scale.

EMCAL™ - Patented user-initiated self-recalibration of EM gain.

Superior Baseline Clamp and EM Stability - Essential for quantitative accuracy of dynamic measurements

Qualified down to -20°C ambient temperature - Excellent for use at observatories.
