Andor Journal Club

The Andor Journal Club is a monthly presentation where Dr Marcin Barszczewski will discuss selected papers, featuring Andor equipment, from a range of life & physical science disciplines. Each talk will conclude with an interactive Q&A discussion on each paper.

If you would like to suggest a paper for inclusion please feel free to email Marcin.

So Long, And Thanks For All The Zebrafish

In the first Andor Journal Club of 2018, Dr Marcin Barszczewski will focus on zebrafish. Not only is it one of the key model organisms widely used in genetic studies but it can also be studied in its less known capacity - as a biosensor for the modern-day scourge of our oceans and aquifers – nanoscopic plastic particles finding their way into virtually all aquatic environments.

Ex Machina – From Imaging Nanomotors To Testing Nervous System On A Chip

In our second episode of the Andor Journal Club, Dr Marcin Barszczewski will look at low light imaging applied to nano- and microengineering. We will discuss how DNA-based motors and artificial nervous system are useful for a whole range of biochemical, physiological and microbial tests. We will focus on a key imaging technology that makes it possible to image these infinitesimally small light levels and structures – electron-multiplying CCD (EMCCD) - without which light-starved experiments like the ones outlined above, would be significantly more difficult to unravel.

What connects root hairs, C. elegans and mechanosensing? Curious applications of sCMOS imagers in life science in live cell imaging

In this webinar, the first installation of the Andor Journal Club, Dr Marcin Barszczewski will discuss findings from a few selected research papers in which an Andor sCMOS camera has been deployed for imaging. Topics include calcium ion imaging in roots of Arabidopsis, mechanosensing in axonal growth and neuronal imaging in C. elegans.
